London Restaurants, Hotel and more ... update
Being in London the first day of the summer sales is an event which millions of people around the world are attending. Head to Selfridges and you will witness the buz. Personally, I am not a fan and I prefer to shop at Browns, Joseph (Bond street), Start (Shoreditch) or Frenchologie (Seven dials). Anyway what is sure London is the European capital of shopping and Gastronomy.
Forget about Dabbous , the place to be at this moment is the Chiltern Firehouse but we keep it for our next trip.
Gymkana contemporary Indian restaurant. The restaurant looks very colonial and is been inspire by the private club of the high Indian society. the best indian food I taste outside India. Take one of the testing menu ( 6 courses , small portion) is the best choice to experience the India delicate cuisine. I particularly been impress by the Potato Chat (with caramel).
Hawksmoor, steak house. Seven dials. Excellent meat. It is located in the basement. Best to go when is it not sunny outside.
City Social, chic sophisticated restaurant and bar in the city with a view on the famous Gerkin. Jason Atherton new venue is going to be a success. His cuisine and service are as good as you expected. Make sure you visit the toilet.
Peyote Mayfair, Mexican restaurant. The best in the restaurant is the collections of Mexican Skulls on the wall. The food is average, the interior design not spectacular. Refuse to be seated in the basement.
Jamie Oliver Italian, Midst of Soho. This part of soho is having a high concentration of appealing place, Zedl Brasserie, Jamie Oliver, Yard Yam hotel and restaurant and a French rotisserie restaurant that I have not try yet. I have being watching Jamie cooking show on TV , trying his recipes but never get throughout the doors of one of many of his restaurant. Well this is done, he offers a generous Italians English cuisine. Nice outdoor terrace.
Otto's Restaurant: old French cuisine that you will almost impossible to find taste across the channel or may be at the mythic Tour d'Argent. And it is a German who bring this piece of French culinary culture to London! Canard a la press is the signature dish, you need to order it when you book. It is delicious and spectacular.
We had the change to attend a private dinning at Quo Vadis host by Australian chef Skye Gyngell . This was absolutely simply delicious. Simple well cook and executed cuisine. I look forwards to go to her new restaurant at Somerset House, Spring, which should open in September.
Baltazar Covent Garden, French Brasserie and Bakery. Very well done ...nice for breakfast.
Covent Garden Hotel, Seven Dials district, is very nice for English breakfast. The restaurant room looks like a English country hunting house.
The Firmdale hotel (Soho hotel, Covent Garden....) group just open a new hotel in the midst of Soho the Ham Yard . in the pure Kit Kemp eclectic English style. The result is amazing as usual but lighter. Love it.
The restaurant has a very nice terrace in the courtyard.
Book Store : the Book store of London Foyles just open its new amazing flagship 5 stories book shop on Charing Cross Road a block from the previous store.
If you love books this is THE shop.
Art Gallery near Conduit street always attract my eyes with interesting arts.
